Meet Trecia Kimes-Brown   

    Trecia Kimes-Brown formally announced her candidacy for Prosecuting Attorney for Vinton County, Ohio, last fall. Trecia received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron, School of Law in 1998. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Political and Economic Philosophy, from Wheeling Jesuit University (formerly known as Wheeling Jesuit College) in 1995, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the President's Medal for second highest grade point average.

Committed to her Profession

    Trecia lives and works in Vinton County, Ohio. She has successfully operated her own law practice for over 12 years. She enjoys practicing in the area of family law including divorces, dissolutions, custody cases, adoptions and probate work. She represents children and parents in Children Services cases involving abuse neglect and dependency. She has successfully completed dozens of adoptions over the years in many counties. Many involved children being adopted from foster care.

    Trecia served as counsel for the Vinton County Child Support Enforcement Agency for two years as the primary contract holder. While with Simmons and Grillo she represented the Village of Zaleski for several years. She has counseled various nonprofit organizations such as the Friends of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, Inc.; the Convention and Visitors Bureau Inc.; Shepherds House, Inc.; etc. She also presided as Magistrate at Mayor's Court, Village of McArthur. She has since resigned from that position to run for Prosecutor. Currently, she represents the West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Foothills District.

    Additionally, Trecia is the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Hocking County Prosecutor's Office in Logan, Ohio. She handles all Hocking County Municipal Court Cases through all stages of the case including review of charges, filling of charges, pre-trial conferences, preliminary hearing, and trial. She is also responsible for all real estate cases including tax foreclosures.

    Trecia has published various articles which include an article on Domestic Violence published in various state newspapers in connection with the Ohio State Bar Association's "Law You Can Use" column (appearing in 2001).

    She has presented to various organizations which include the Vinton County Small Business Group, the Vinton County EMS, and to the Youth Build group on domestic violence and substance abuse.

Committed to her Community

    Trecia has contributed to many boards and organizations which include the McArthur Business and Professional Women's Organization (1999-present). She is the past State President of BPW/OHIO. She also served as Young Careerist State Chair, Conference Chair, President-Elect of BPW/Ohio, State Parliamentarian, Region President, and many other committees and projects over the years.

    Her work in other organizations include the Vinton County Jaycees, West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church Board of Trustees, McArthur United Methodist Church; she served as the Family Ministries Chair as well as Pastor Parish Relations Committee Chair and on several other committees over the years.

    Additional contributions include the Vinton County Community Corrections Board, the Vinton County Chamber of Commerce where she served on the Board of Directors for several years as well as being appointed Vice-President and President. She is the acting Chair of Christmas in Downtown. She initiated the County Wide Yard Sale as the Chamber President which continues annually.

    She was a Board member of Shepherd's House for several years and was dedicated to the establishment of a domestic violence shelter in Vinton County, Ohio. She served as both Vice-President and Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

    Other activities include assisting with her daughter's 4-H activities. Trecia continues to give back by participating in the Vinton County CERT program and supporting the Vinton County Crime Watch programs. She was the Zack Space Campaign Coordinator for Vinton County. Trecia is active the Vinton County Lions and has served as an officer for a number of years including Secretary and President. She participated on the Fourth District Court of Appeals Task Force on Legal Clinics. She has been the judge for the Area Competition of the Ohio Mock Trial program for numerous years.

     Trecia has dedicated herself to Vinton County and knows its needs and residents well. She has been married 17 years to Bryan Brown who is a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Hocking Valley Hospital. Together they have one daughter Sydney who is 10 years old and attends Vinton County School System. They live on a small farm near Hamden with 4 horses, 3 goats (all rescued from 4-H children after purchase at the Vinton County Fair), rabbits and cats. She and her family enjoy working and playing on the farm together, swimming, participating in 4-H and community events.
